Our Blog is finally back up and running after Hurricane Sandy.
Now..for our highlights!
The children enjoyed exploring a new Ipad App, Gazzilli Science.
Graham's Mom and Dad were our surprise readers for the 30th Day of School. They even surprised us in costume! All of the children were very excited.
We have been studying nocturnal animals. The children enjoyed learning fun facts about owls and bats. Here are the children watching a video about bats on the SMART Board.
Mrs. Drake, an upper school teacher, visited our classroom to talk to the children about plastic bags, what they are used for, and some of their negative effects on our environment.
The next day, our class went outside to observe how plastic bags may get blown about by the wind. Both Kindergarten classes then took a walk around our school to observe where plastic bags may end up if they are not thrown out. The children found plastic bags stuck in trees, car wheels, and even on our playground. This activity was directed by Charlene Sequeira, author of The Plastic Bag: A Scrap-It Book. The ideas in her book are based on educating for sustainability.
Madison observed a plastic bag stuck in a tree.
Siddharth observed a plastic bag stuck in a car wheel.
Mrs. Sequeira then followed up on what could happen in nature if these plastic bags are not thrown away. She also showed the children an example of a reusable bag. It was a great lesson for the children. A big thank you to Mrs. Sequeira and Mrs. Drake!
We have begun using our SMART Board to conduct our Morning Meeting once a week. The children enjoy playing an active role in our Morning Meeting activities.
Graham and his "Sous Chef," Mrs. DeSantis, created a tasty Spider Bite treat.
The children enjoying some "down time" with a book!
Friday, October 26th, we visited the New Dover Fire Station.
Our "Word Wall Rockstar"Akhila helped us add our new sight words come, see, and me to our word wall!
In a few weeks we will be meeting with our 5th grade buddies for another activity. If anyone has any toilet paper tubes, please send them in with your child. It would be greatly appreciated!
Have a great week!
Miss Marikakis
