We have had such a great few weeks in Kindergarten! The children have now adjusted to the routine and I have greatly enjoyed getting to know their individual personalities.
In Science, we have begun learning about autumn. We read Why Do Leaves Change Color? by Betsy Maestro. After discussing why leaves change during autumn, the children created their own autumn trees to summarize what they had learned. They also wrote a sentence about what they like to do during autumn. There were many steps to this project and the children had a great time creating their work!
We didn't mind getting messy!
After all their hard work, the autumn trees are complete! Please stop by to see the children's wonderful work.
We also made pumpkins to decorate our classroom and get us in the autumn spirit!
Over the past two weeks, we have had the chance to explore a few new Ipad Apps. These Apps include a Fire Safety App to go along with our Fire Prevention theme, and an App all about bats. This App made the children very excited to begin our study of nocturnal animals!
On Thursday, October 4th the class met their Senior Buddies at the Senior Buddy Assembly! Our four buddies, Astuti, Zach, Jason, and Phil, will frequently visit us through out the year; as well as attend any special parties or events.
On Friday, October 5th, Mr. Leu was our surprise reader for the 20th day of school! Amelie and the other children were very surprised.
The same day, we celebrated Amelie's 5th birthday with cupcakes and juice. Happy Birthday Amelie!
To continue our science exploration, we went on an autumn walk with Mrs. Geissler's class to look for signs of autumn. The children first made predictions of what they thought they would observe. After our walk, the children wrote in their Science Journals about their autumn observations.
The week of October 8th, Amelie was our Star of the Week!
Amelie's favorite snack, Dortitos.
Star Amelie reading her favorite story with her dad!
Star Amelie shared some of her trinkets and treasures!
On the Friday of Amelie's Star Week, she became Chef Amelie! Amelie created a "Tasty Firetruck" for the class. All the children thought it was delicious!
On Wednesday, October 10th, the children got together with their 5th Grade Buddies for the first time. The Kindergarten children and 5th Graders made bats to hang in our classroom. Please stop by to see our bats flying around our room!
Some quality time with our 5th Grade Buddies!
The children have begun Reading Workshop the past two weeks. Each week the children are very excited to have that special time to read individually with their teacher.
The past two weeks our story was In A Dark, Dark Wood and our poem was "Just Like Me." Our "Word Wall Rockstar" Michael helped us add our new sight words to our word wall. The words are in, was, and, up, and a.
In Math, we are finishing our chapter on Patterning. The children have continued to explore different types of patterns using manipulatives and SMART Board activities.
Lastly, On Friday, October 12th, Wardlaw-Hartridge showed their school pride by wearing green and gold.
Here they are..The Wardlaw-Hartridge School Class of 2025!
